LOCAL STRATEGIC ACTION

WTC ANTI-RACISM WORKING GROUP

The Anti-Racism Working Group was formed by Weston-super-Mare Town Council in 2020 after the Council passed an anti-racist resolution, pledging to become an Anti-Racist Council and committing “to work to eradicate racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, Antisemitism and discrimination which impact the entire community and blight our society.” The group consists of members from across the community who meet on a regular basis.

MAKING ANTI-RACISM VISIBLE

This initiative was created by RENS, in 2022 as part of a wider Community Renewal Fund project to build a stronger, more inclusive and resilient community.

As part of our commitment to anti-racism, we are are working with local organisations to make anti-racism commitments visible, both online and in public spaces. There are currently three main areas of focus:

  • Anti-racism policies: We’re asking all organisations with an anti-racism policy to send a link to their policy and their logo so we can promote them on our website.
  • Anti-racism pledges: We’re working with the local community to develop an anti-racism pledge to be signed by local businesses and organisations.
  • Visible commitment to anti-racism: We’re asking all organisations, shops and business to display visible evidence of their commitment to anti-racism.
